Our latest recipient of the Native Armor Donation Program was L. Ledesma from Oklahoma. Ledesma is a middle school student who exemplifies great character and was strongly noticed by his former Indian Education Instructor J. Bates from Shawnee Middle School. Native Armor is glad that students such as Ledesma are making positive efforts towards an educated future.

Jimmy Fallon Slow Jams the News with President Obama

Through out the Presidential Election the price tag on a college education came up often. President Obama and Jimmy Fallon sing on the relevant issues of college students.  Stafford Loans interest rates as of July 1. 2012 have doubled from 3.4 to 6.8 and are in full effect. Along with the increases  of interest rates Pell grants have gone from funding 18 semesters to funding only 12 semesters. Native Armor is looking forward to the next term of President Barack Obama and the prospective issues he wishes to change for college students.

Stay updated with Native Armor on tips for college funding and helpful hints when navigating through scholarships.

Native Armor Youth

Over the past three years Native Armor has had the ability to give out Under Armour Donations to Native Students that are making efforts to obtain an educated future. With it being Native American Month make sure to check in and see some of the faces of Native Armor youth. I encourage everyone to talk with a student about the benefits of an educated generation for our Native Nations across Indian Country.

Kicking off the month is Tanner Cook of Rosebud, South Dakota.

Under Armour Raffle Winners from the NIEA!

We had the very exciting and thankful opportunity to set up booth at the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) Conference at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City over the weekend. The NIEA Conference is an annual event held to encourage, motivate, and guide our Native youth into not only getting into a college but to be successful while there. We were able to talk to people from all over the country, from Alaska to California, from Maine to Florida, from Arizona to North Dakota. It was a great sight to see so many with a single purpose and such various ways to accomplish our goal. While we were mostly a information booth, informing people of our unique ways in which we promote successful post secondary education we also raffled off Under Armour apparel.

Don’t forget to check out the photo Gallery to see all the Winners!

“We Are Indian” – Tribal Youth Ambassadors for the California Indian Museum and Cultural Center

With the influx of videos, such as seen on YouTube, that show and celebrate our unique cultures our youth are able to empower themselves and display pride in their heritage. This video is an example of how children can show pride in their heritage, resistance in the notion that American Indians are extinct, and involvement in their community.

It has become apparent the need for our kids to become comfortable and familiar with all types of media formats, in this case video production. Native Armor had the opportunity to team up with the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History, Oklahoma University, and hosts the Wichita Nation and Affiliated Tribes to learn a little something about video production.
